10 WORDS
“GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD AND STOP BEING A BABY!”
Those were the last 10 words Racheal heard that changed her life forever.
She was 23 years old.
That day, she stood by the bed like a sacrificial lamb while her eldest sister laid down like the omniscient deity ready to appease all wrongs.
After all, there had been plenty
For the past 2 hours, Racheal had stoop by like a cleaner’s assistant while her visiting eldest sister cleaned the entire room from start to finish— a feat Racheal hadn’t done in the past 2 years since the family had moved into that house.
So there she stood, with her bowed neck and defeated shoulders, ready for the backlash.
“I don’t come home for 5 months, Racheal. 5 months! And the whole room is a pigsty?. God, are you even a human being?”
“Sister, I—”
“You better shut up with that excuse!”
She shut up.
So if mummy doesn’t clean or David doesn’t clean, or NOBODY tells you to clean, you won’t do it?”
Her lips were still shut.
“Grow up, Rachealllll. When will you finally grow up to realize that you are not a kid anymore. This is not about being a last born.“
“It’s about knowing the right thing to do and freaking doing it!. Mummy isn’t young anymore nowww. That woman doesn’t have the strength to pick up after you again! Do you want something bad to happen to my mother?!”
At that last part, Racheal had an inner cringe.
If Sister had been searching to land a hefty blow, it had been successful.
Their mother had toiled for several years to give them a good life. Now, it was their turn, and Racheal was lagging?.
At that moment, Racheal had never felt more ashamed or self-loathing
She sniffled,
“Sister, I’m sorry. This has been very bad of me. I’ve been so nonchalant with myself and everything else. I’m sorry. I won’t do it again”
Sister sighed.
“I’m not saying it so you can apologize to me, you this girl. I’m saying it so that it syncs into your brain”
“till you finally realize that you’re a grown woman with your own choices and responsibilities. No one is coming to save you anymore! And I’m not talking about just career!”
Rachel nodded her head.
“Yes, Sister. I understand”
It was in that room, at 11:45 am, when Racheal felt her world change.
